Weddings

DePaul University has been the site of many beautiful weddings over the years.  Our friendly event planning team will help you coordinate all the details of your special day.  We will help you make your wedding be an elegant day that you will always remember.

Locations

Weddings may be held in two possible locations, the Cortelyou Commons or the Student Center (room 120 A and B). Both rooms provide beautiful settings for that special day.

Policies

Contract Information:

If the client's requested date is available, the date will be held on a tentative basis for a period of 3 business days. If the Wedding Reception Contract accompanied by a 50% deposit is not received by 3:00pm on the 3rd business day, the date will be released. The balance of the rental is due 24 hours prior to event date. Please note that we do not send a reminder notice for the remaining balance.

Cancellations:

In the event of a cancellation your deposit will not be refunded. Cancellations require signature on a Notification of Cancellation Form filled out in person with the Event Coordinator for the Student Centers.

Maximum Capacities:

The total capacity at the Cortelyou Commons of DePaul University is 200 persons. At the Lincoln Park Student Center Room 120 A -B, the total capacity is 400 persons. These maximums include guests, children, and the wedding party. This limit is in place to protect the safety of you and your guests. Under no circumstance can the DePaul University Student Centers accommodate more than those maximums stated below:

- 150 round table reception
Lincoln Park Student Center Multipurpose Room
- 400 stand up reception
- 350 round table reception

Catering:

Chartwells is the exclusive caterer of DePaul University.  Outside caterers are not allowed on the premises to cater your event. Please contact Chartwells at www.depaulcatering.com for more information about menus, pricing, and policies.

Donations of food for DePaul departments and student organizations may be arranged in certain circumstances.  For more information, contact the Director of the Student Centers at 773-325-7346.

Rental Periods:

The standard rental period for wedding receptions is a total of 7 hours. This is comprised of 1.5 hours for set up by caterers, florists, and other reception preparations, and 5.5 hours of guest time for the wedding reception.

Ceremonies:

For an additional fee, there is a possibility of holding your wedding ceremony as well as your reception. Your guests will be required to leave the facility for the time between the wedding and reception to allow for room set up change-over. If you book a wedding ceremony in addition to the wedding reception you are entitled to a one hour rehearsal on the evening prior to your wedding depending on space availability.

Additional Setup Time:

Additional setup time may be allowed depending on staff availability. If you require setup time that exceeds the 1.5 hours prior to your event, please let us know as soon as possible. There will be a $100 charge for each hour you require beyond the agreed upon rental period. This fee will not be pro-rated for any portion of an hour used.

Dancing and Music:

Dancing is permitted in the Main Ballroom space. Entertainment and equipment for private entertainers are the sole responsibility of the requesting group. Reception music can not be permitted outside of the Cortelyou Commons due to the residential location of the building. Amplified systems can be used within reason and must face the west wall so that the sound does not affect the residences in the area. Music must be scheduled to end by 10:40 pm, or 20 minutes prior to your reserved end time. This policy is strictly enforced and failure to comply can result in an additional charge of $100/hour for any portion of an hour used beyond 11:00 pm.

General Information:

All DePaul facilities are non-smoking.

Open flame candles are not to be used in any facility. Well-enclosed tea light candles or votives must be approved by the Event Coordinator.

Birdseed, rice, flower petals, confetti, or any decoration smaller than 2" x 2" may not be thrown anywhere in the facilities. Additional charges will be assessed for unusually heavy cleaning or damages following a wedding reception.

Rental Rates

For 6 hours of continual use of the facility:

Cortelyou Commons $ 2,500
Lincoln Park Student Center $ 3,000

Note: 150 maximum guest count includes guests, children and the wedding party.

Ceremonies and Rehearsals

An additional fee is charged for the ceremony as well as for the rehearsal.The fee includes 1 hour additional time for the ceremony and 1 hour additional time on the evening prior to the ceremony.

Furniture and Equipment

Cortelyou Commons:

  • A combination of 60" (8 people) and 72" (10 people) round tables
  • 42" table for cake
  • Up to 150 tan upholstered chairs
  • 6' tables for catering (buffet style receptions)
  • 2' - 6' tables in foyer for gift collection and table assignments
  • 21' x 21' dance floor

Student Center

  • 72" (10 people) round tables
  • Up to 250 tan upholstered chairs
  • 6' tables for catering (buffet style receptions)
  • 6' tables for gifts, table assignments etc.
  • 21' x 21' Dance floor
